The purpose of Blog Comment Week is simply to make people more aware of the impact of conversations that can happen through blogging. I know from personal experience that a comment on a blog can lead one into a great, life changing adventure.
My story starts with my students leaving comments on Kaia's blog post about an outdoor excursion she took with her dad, Jabiz. Jabiz noticed the comments, and tracked my class down. He then skyped in and talked to my students about the post and where they were living. My students responded by creating a book for Kaia using Voicethread. This is the link to my blog post that contains the Voicethread. Later the story is picked up by several others and continues to be shared.
Because I caught a link on Twitter, my students had the opportunity to learn about another country, meet a fantastic teacher, and create a special book for a child they didn't even know. I have since become good friends with Jabiz and have had the good fortune to watch the amazing things he does with his students. All of this I can directly tie to a blog post and a few comments.

Hi Mr. Chamberlain,
ReplyDeleteIf only there were more hours in our days to glean more from the wisdom and experience of others. As a constant learner, it seems only natural to seek out like minded souls who share the same passion for education. Taking time to comment on the blogs of others may just be the encouragement that voice needed. I know your comments were an encouragement to me. Thank you. I look forward to reading more. @willgourley
